In-season Estimate
In-season estimate is the estimate of salmon numbers during the period when they are returning to spawn. The estimate is done by a variety of techniques, which includes test fisheries and spawner counts. In-season estimate is required to gain a better understanding on approximately how many salmon are returning and whether escapement goals have been reached. It determines when and how long fisheries are allowed to be opened.
