2006 BC Family Fishing Weekend
« on: June 12, 2006, 03:34:29 PM »

This weekend is the annual BC Family Fishing Weekend (June 16th - 18th). Any BC residents can fish without a freshwater licence during these three days (however all freshwater fishing regulations still apply). Take a couple of kids out fishing, teach a newbie. :) There will be events taking place through this province. Some of the main Lower Mainland events are:

Berry's Bait & Tackle Kids Fishing Seminars
June 17th | Berry's Bait & Tackle

Lafarge Lake Family Fishing Day
June 17th | Lafarge Lake, Coquitlam

Cultus Lake Pikeminnow Derby
June 17th | Cultus Lake, Chilliwack

Mill Lake Family Fishing Day
June 17th | Mill Lake, Abbotsford

Go Fish Rice Lake
June 18th | Rice Lake, North Vancouver

Other events can be viewed on the BC Family Fishing Weekend website.

What kind of flies work for Pikeminnows, and where can you catch them in Cultus with a small 12ft inflatable (i.e. not row until arms fall off)

I have found most minnow patterns work well as do Black dry fly patterns such as the Griffith Gnat and Black Gnat.

OK...  That's the "what"

Who's got the "where"?

We're not necessarily trying to win the derby here, but it would be nice to get into some :)

Any creek going into the lake will do, also near hot dog stands. Use some worm scent on your fly. ;)

How about a "Naturally" scented rubber leach on the fly line, or when no ones looking rub some hot dog on the fly of choice. ;)

Just follow behind the Leaf Craft. It's not hard to find, as there should be a trail of chum behind it. ;D

Is it safe to be in a 12ft inflatable with water skiing boats around?

Wow! What an incredible event it must have been! I am really sorry I could not make it. I just read the report and reviewed the photos. All those kids and the fun they must have had!
Sincere congratulations to the Fraser Valley Salmon Society and Peter MacPherson for the organizing of this annual event.
