Mill Lake Family Fishing Day
Posted on June 12th, 2006 by Ken Scheer, Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC

The Mill Lake Fishing Event 2006 takes place June 17th at Mill Lake from 8am. to Noon. Prizes will be handed out from Noon - 1pm.

This is a Rain or Shine event!

This non profit event takes place during the Family Fishing Weekend, June 16-18, when a Canadian resident does not require a freshwater fishing license to fish in freshwater lakes and rivers. It's Free!

The lake will be stocked with approximately 1000 fish weighing between 1-2 pounds. Some of these fish will be tagged and those who catch them will qualify to win special prizes.

A Grand Prize of a 6 hour sturgeon fishing trip, provided by Curtis Besse of "Lucky This" Guide Service, for two people, one under 16 and one over 16 will be drawn from all registrants at the end of the event.

There will be many other draw prizes given out at the event donated by local sponsors and sportfishing tackle industry representatives.

Remember, you must register to receive any prizes so please fill out the pre-registration form in the newspaper and drop it off at the registration booth at the event.

This year there will also be a Kid's Fishing Pool where younger children can catch their trophy! Fishing rods will be supplied for this event.

A "Trout Release" will be held from 10 to 10:30 where children can release a fish or two into the lake.

There will also be several clowns at the event, painting faces and making animal balloons, to entertain young and older children alike.

Approximately sixty loaner rods will be available for those that do not have a fishing outfit - preference will be given to children and adults with children. These rods and reels are provided on a "first come first serve" basis.

Abbotsford Fire Department will be on hand with a fire truck. The department will again be donating a Kids Ride to School in the FireTruck which will also be drawn at the end of the event.

Parking and boat launching are limited so please make allowances and be courteous. Please use the SevenOaks parking lot closest to the lake if the boat launch parking lot is full. Attendants will assist you with parking of cars and launching of boats.

Country 107.1 FM, the local radio station, will also be helping out at the event this year.

Other Family Fishing events are also being planned for this weekend and you can find out where by checking out the website @ www.bcfamilyfishing.com.

A current list of sponsors includes Abbotsford News, Lees Fine Jewelry, Hub Sports, Family Fishing Weekend, Abbotsford Fire Fighters Local 2864, Berkley, Country 107.1FM and the Freshwater Fisheries Society of British Columbia.
