The rec fishing lobby was all over this as well. Wild coho retention opened up on the south coast this year, with strong lobbying coming from organized sport groups.

With US catch, which can now go up to 13% (not reported here), overall exploitation will increase from 13% to ~30%, IF things don't get out of hand. Which they likely will.

As someone on another forum said, a bad time to be an Interior coho :(  Add to that, bad times for early Chilliwack coho, early Cultus sockeye, and several small populations of Fraser River tributary summer run steelhead, and of course all the stocks that will be impacted in the approach fisheries.
I imagine the greed will soon show from all the user groups.
