Vedder,Chehalis,Suicide Creek Nov 2
« on: November 02, 2004, 01:23:53 PM »

Headed out to the chehalis at first light as usual, even though with the rain I knew better. What's a guy to do when he has the day off and has the fever?Coho that is. I will get to the rivers in a moment .First let me relay a persnal tragedy that befell me on the way.Maybe it can serve as a heads up to others by sharing it.Here's the scenario, approaching turn off to nicomen island misses turn and t-bones innocent older gent who is just minding own business out for a coffee with his buddy. In the rain and glare I didn't recognize the turn I thought it was a side road and too late realized it was a turn in the road!Ouch! Luckily no-one was hurt But the old gents minivan is totaled.I just had minor damage to my pick-up.One half second later I may have struck the drivers side not just the front. This thought does not give me comfort. Please just be careful out there.
Anyway the chehalis is currently blown out.Acouple of days I guess before it clears and drops enough for coho fishing.Suicide Creek the same but worse, seems the steeper run produced heavier rainfall. The vedder is blown out top to bottom but I did see some guys at the hatchery catching some dark fish and some tomatoes. No doubt there are fish in the side channels and that is where they will likely stay until the river drops and clears somewhat.

Good Luck and be careful on and away from the water.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Riverman. That road to Chehalis can be dangerous in the rain. But I guess any
road can be and your words of caution should definitely be heeded. Thanks for the reports on all 3 of those locales, I'm certain you've saved a few fisherman a wasted drive. Thanks Riverman.

Fished the Chehalis Canyon on Saturday and got nothing but dogs.  I had good reports from the last week of Oct., but saturday sucked ( for fish).  Still a good day though, clean air, nice river, great freind, and no phone service ;D

Hey Riverman, did the chehalis campground blow out as well ? I'm going camping there this weekend ! I guess if I see chum booting across the road like a few years back , that will tell me what the shape of things will be lol .  ?

Went back to my same spot pictured above. Unfortunatley the water was still just as high, however, the visibuility was much better at about 1 ft. Fished for about a hour and got 3 coho, 1 rainbow and one cutty. One coho and the rainbow were taken on a dicknite spoon. The cutty was caught on a jensen egg. And the other two coho were caught on size 2 blue foxes, one pink one red. Here's some pics. Enjoy.
