Thought so too. And also the emphasis on real silver or gold plating.

I will start assembling soon once I receive the remaining parts.

Are you going to use the tape on the back of the blades?

Looking forward to seeing more.  Thanks for posting up.

Yes, I will put a tape dot on the inside of most of the blades...except the black ones.

Wanted to weigh the completed spinner prototypes:

This is a 24K gold economy with brass body.

This is an all sterling silver Pen-tac.

Both are surprisingly the same weight, 3/10oz...considering the different blade thicknesses.
I will also assemble the lighter Pen-tac body in all metal finishes when the parts arrive.

I'm looking forward to see the final product.

I am taping up and painting some brass spoons tonight, trying out a few different materials.

The 'premium' tools sold to make spinners are not that great...

These should make it easier.
I selected these punch sizes for my blade tape. I can proper sticker punches if these don't work well.

The tool punches didn't work very well...

This proper paper punch is much better. A perfect 3/8 inch for #3 blades. I just need a 1/2 inch for the larger ones.

I intended to produce a few of each spinner in different weight and finish variations, and also with different lure tape. Too many, and too much trouble to bother.

I will simply follow the general rules for size and finish dependant on water condition, light, and temperature.

This is a random assortment that I will start with...

Looks nice, I've wanted to give this a try. Where did you get the black blades and bodies?

Thanks for the info. I wasnt familiar with Pen-Tac, they seem to have a pretty good variety of finishes.

You say that the premium tools supplied aren't that great.

When I used to make my own spinners I used this wire former-bender-thingy
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lure-maker-Spinner-maker-wire-bender-tackle-craft-wire-bending-forming-tool-/181723602544?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a4f921e70

That, and a pair of side cutters, was all I used.

If you follow the Jed Davis doctrine, then you will only require genuine metal finishes in French style blades only. These should be purchased from Pen-Tac for the unique qualities that only they possess.

However, I also purchased many similar components from Lure Parts online and in additional painted colors. With my limited experience I have found that chartruce and brass perform best...on the Cap.

I am not yet convinced that the significant premium is necessary for the Pen-tac components yet...time will yield findings. They are nicer though.

Get a print catalogue from LPO, it's easier to determine actual sizing of parts. And you can better see all the items they have.

The best wire forming pliers are supposed Grobet. The ones I got should be sold in a dollar store. I saw some regular snap ring pliers that could do a better job.
