Thompson River salmon fishing closure
« on: August 21, 2013, 10:42:11 AM »

For those who enjoy heading up to the Thompson for the chinook jack fishery, please note that Fisheries and Oceans Canada has just issued a complete salmon fishing closure from Kamloops Lake to the confluence on the Fraser River, starting tomorrow.

Certainly these closures bear merit, but think of the ripple effect too. All the small communities in those areas will be affected with lost hotel/camp site revenue, gas purchases, and grocery + restaurant revenue , and of course fishing tackle purchases. All lost due to the salmon closures on the Thompson and Fraser Rivers.

I was going to phone you to inform you the bad news. ;D Doesn't matter anyway, more of your fishing time is about to be replaced by babysitting. ;D ;D ;D

I will try for trout with the hoppers. ;D The thing on this closure as I have been fishing there since the 1970 and have caught only 2 sockeye. Saw some people taking chinooks on the way through on Monday but it was open for them with a rod and reel. ??? I will be sending a note to FOC, Sheldon for an explanation on this closure as we have no impact on sockeye and no BB take place there or very little. I certainly donot mind a closure when they make sense but I feel this one does not in this area, others will dispute that statement I am sure.
