West Vancouver, August 8th 2009
« on: August 08, 2009, 12:03:03 PM »

Headed over to the beach to this morning to meet up with troutbreath for some kayak coho fishing. As I finished my coffee waiting for a little more light fish could be seen jumping all along the beach.

As the sun came up over the trees lots of people started showing up in boats and on shore, for the next two hours I fished hard but only saw one dogfish caught by one of the other anglers. At this point I decided to take a break and headed for shore. While I was on shore troutbreath showed up and I asked him if he could show me how its done.

Well sure enough troutbreath hits the water and in no time he is into a fish, a nice pink which he releases. A short time later he is into another fish, this time a wild coho which is sent back on its way.
Out of all the other anglers troutbreath is the only one to touch a fish so far so I paddle over to get the scoop, he gives me some advice and lends me one of his buzzbombs.

After tying on the new buzzbomb I am into a fish but it quickly comes undone. Troutbreath is content catching his fish and decided to call it a day, I decided to stick around to try and get rid of the skunk.

It was around 10:30 and I was thinking about heading home when the rod bends over, after a nice battle my first pink of the year is in the net and I'm on my way home.

Lots of fish showing today but they were pretty tight lipped as I only saw three caught all morning.

Very nice... I guess you are taking home the "earliest caught pink" award. ;D

Maybe I'll get up early this week... :-\

That's a nice size fish...nice going.

So. what's the technique you were shown by Troutbreath and was it a pink buzzbomb?

All the same, you should be into more fish now that you were given good advice.

I was out earlier in the week and spotted 3 pinks surfacing. Managed to land a 5 3/4 lb. coho on a Krocodile. They're coming....

The fish were caught on white buzz bombs with a blue stripe, and I can attest they work! As far as techniques go jigging the buzzbomb up off bottom seemed to work way better than just casting and retrieving.

And troutbreath gets the first pink prize as he caught his hours before me.

I was out today at a beach with the fly rod

not too many fish but lots of fishermen
I got there at 4.50am and i could not beleive how many people were there allready (well it was Saturday)
The water was greenish grey color
some fish were showing but not many
I will try again on Monday and Tuesday

I was at another beach on Friday and the guys in the boats were nailing them
they were all jigging one guy got a big spring
guys on the shore did not do to well
lots of jumpers but tight lipped

Relax buddy I didnt actually get a prize for the first pink it wasn't a competition just a joke, and yes others have caught pinks already but I don't remember seeing any pictures?

And yes you should have posted a pic as well as a report, we could use more of that around here as there are too many people who just like to lurk and make snide remarks.

I can always put together a little prize for Hook if it helps to prevent his eyes from rolling to the back of his head...

Round 2 tomorrow and I can't wait as usual. Wind in your face. Fish jumping almost into the boat. How can you not like it. If anyone else is interested in the Kayak Koho Klinic maybe we should get this thing going.
