Spring Cutthroat Course with Ron Hjorth

As winter releases its grip and we enter the warmer and longer days of April the local cutthroat fishing comes into its own. Our Spring Cutthroat Course is your opportunity to learn about the spring time cutthroat fishing opportunities here in the Lower Mainland from long time cutthroat fisherman Ron Hjorth. In this two part course Ron will share with you his vast experience in pursuing these often elusive yet magical fish. The theory session will cover the life cycle of the cutthroat trout, where to find these fish in beach, estuary, and river habitats, seasonal feeding habits, rod, reel, and line set up, and successful fly fishing techniques and flies.

As this is a spring course, particular attention will be given to the salmon fry emergence and the techniques and flies used to catch cutthroat feeding on chum and pink salmon fry. We will also tie a few of the top spring time producing patterns. The practical session will consist of a full day of on the water instruction where you will learn about reading water, locating fish, and proper presentation and fly choice. We will be traveling to our on the water locations either by our 27 foot Grady White or by jet boat.

The actual locations will be determined just prior to the course based on recent fish activity and weather conditions.

Theory Session: April 23rd 7:00pm to 9:30pm at Pacific Angler
Practical Session: April 25th 7:00am to 5:00pm location T.B.A.
