Im pretty sure that BwiBwi knows what a sockeye is and knows there is no retention of them on the Vedder. Chum it is! :)

When I first saw this, I saw Sockeye!!  But there is a catch, he said that all he found was boots and chums I believe, so I figured that this fish came out of his FREEZER because of the lack of keeper fish on Sunday. :o  Just a thought! ;) ;D

that's a really nice looking fish. could it be a cross between a coho (hence the redder flesh) and a chum (check out the faint vertical green stripes) and a sockeye???? must have been a great party!!!!

LOL - good call BS.  It very well could be a "thawed out sockeye".  Notice how BwiBwi didn't exactly specify where he "caught" this fish!

its scales have a purpley tit to them, and there are green bars but its flesh is red. Either its a cross breed of coho and chum, or chum and sockeye!

From Bio 11 i remember that species cannot cross breed. only sub-species can. But i'm no biology major.

Species can cross breed they're just normally infertile. ie Cuttbows, Tigertrout, Splake etc.

You are right when you say that what we recognize as different species usually do not cross breed in nature (you are also right when you say that closely related species may sometimes, especially when humans help them, produce viable hybrids that are sterile). However it may happen that closely related species sometimes produce viable and fertile hybrids in nature...

Humans like to do categories and would like that everything easily and perfectly fit in these categories... Nature is often less strict. I think that nature likes the category "species" quite well. Species seem to really mean something biologically. However, it is not the case for most of the other taxonomic categories (familly, genus, sub-species...) humans created. What we call sub-species is often either a new discovered species without a formal latin name or group of individuals, within a species, sharing some morphological caracteristics.
