Hockey Pool.....who would you take first overall?
« on: October 04, 2006, 04:28:03 PM »

Our office hockey pool draft is tomorrow and I won the lottery for the first overall pick..not exactly what I was looking for considering round 2 is done in reverse order so my second pick will be well down the list.

BUT I'm still not sure who to pick as the first overall pick?  Any suggestions out there?

I'd second that.  Depends on what your Goals are worth too though.  If its 1 for 1 like assists, Joe Thornton is not a bad choice overall because you know he get another whack of points.

It is 1 for 1 on the points...which makes the decision a little tougher

Depends on your scoring system but in most all pools I would choose Ovechkin. I have him and Thorton getting around the same amount of points, but Ovechkin will get you more goals, shots but a worse +/-. If its strictly points, weighted equally, then you might as well flip a coin between him and Thorton. IMHO, Jagr will not be quite as spectacular this year as he was last year. He lost two of his Chek mates Ruchinsky and Sykora. New York was also lucky in that their two glass men Straka and Nylander were able to stay relativly healthy, something that likley will not happen again. Sure, they signed Shannahan, but he is still an unknown as to how well he will perform in NY and the lockout was more responcible for his play than anything else.

+- doesn't count, shot's don't count.

Simply 1 point per assist, and 1 point per goal.

The coin toss is becomming more appealing.   LOL

Either way you can't go wrong though, just figure out who you want to take for round 2.  Thats where it gets hard.
