For Everyones Sanity...
« on: August 10, 2006, 10:47:26 PM »

...when your out on the river fishing for sockeye, especially on crowded bars, please do not cast upstream. If you're getting tangled with people above you, chances are that you're casting upstream and short. Despite what most people will tell you, cast straight out from you, you'll hit just as many fish and won't tangle other people. Also, try to match the distance people around you are casting. If everyone is casting far out around you and you cast short, of course you're going to get caught on other people and yes its your fault...

Well that feels a little better  ;)

I like to cast long and if I am not careful, it creates problems.  I avoid those problems by looking down stream 50-75 feet.  Its those guys who will land on top of the end of my drift when they cast up stream and short and if I time myself to them so my drift doesnt end as theirs start...I'm fine.

If everyone casted short they'd actually catch fish! But what do I know, I only get my limit everyday before anyone else even has a fish with no longer than a 10 foot leader. Some people just don't get it, same thing every year.

How about dropping the rod tip when you retrive.Instead of holding your rod as high as you can while you reel in.....kinda sucks for people below you.

Not always true, there are MANY bars where it is necessary to cast that far to consistantly get fish...including peg leg (shudder)

Thank you for that!!  Not only will the person standing out in the water get hooked than turn around and whine at you for hooking them, but also, standing out that far in the water makes no sense at all!!  Really, could someone tell me why this would be an advantage??  I don't get it!! ???

For me standing on shore just gives me a good excuse to hook the idiot the walks in late and decides to wade in the river beside me. I warn him once and only once and if I happen to hook and tear his waders then that is his problem  ;D :D ;D :D .

Don't hold your rod straight up during a drift. Low angle is best.
