Bar Fishing For Springs

I bar fished the lower Fraser last fall for coho but I was wondering when most guys start fishing for springs. This will be my first summer bar fishing for springs and although I knew what I was doing while fishing for Coho, I don't know if there is any other different fishing or baiting technique I should be using for springs. Any help is appreciated :)

Me and roeman have only benn twice. Our first day we hooked one but never landed it. Second we got skunked. We used a a big spin'n glo ..christmas tree color.

Lower fraser?
Well I am hoping to get out for the first time this year still!
How do you color your roe by the way, becuase last summer I never colored it.
Do you find that coloring works better?

*Lil Fisherman*, save the roe for the fall season instead of using them in the summer months. Between May and August, the Lower Fraser River is high and dirty, and salmon are not plentiful. Well... They are, just not concentrated like the pink salmon run you saw last year. Your chance of hooking into a spring salmon is small, most of the time your bait would simply be stolen by smaller fish. If you have connections, I would suggest to try barfishing in the Fraser River around Chilliwack area in July and August, or float fish with roe in the Vedder between September and November, or roe fish down in the Lower Fraser from mid October to early December.

Ok thanks again Rod, but I was just wanting to get out there and relax. And the lower fraser is pretty much the part of the fraser I get to fish becuase I can never get a ride anywhere. :(
So what kind of fishing would you suggest I do in the summer in the lower mainland?

Well, barfish with roe for sure, but just be prepared to lose bait to small fish. ;D You can roe fish for bull trout all the way until late June, then that fishery slows down. Fish for pikeminnows, etc with dew worms and bread dough until the end of August. July and August are also two good months for carp. That's too bad you do not have access to transportation, because the fishing opportunities are plentiful in the summer. :(

July and August are two fantastic months for barfishing in the Chilliwack area.
Starting in early August the Thompson River can be excellent for rainbow trout.
The Vedder River has red chinook salmon in July and August, then coho and white chinook salmon in September and October.
Local lakes around here will continue to have rainbow trout, as the lakes are being stocked continuously by the hatchery.

Hey "LiL" Fishermen, remember me!!  It is possible to hit a fair amount of springs were you were fishing last year!!  I hit 8 out of there on the lower.  They will all be jacks, between 4-8 lbs, but man do they fight and they taste great!! ;D ;D

Were you hitting your jacks towards the end of August Big Steel? Two seasons ago there were quite a few jacks caught during that time down here. I think some of those fishing reports are still on the forum. Last year, at our lucky spot, one girl landed a biggy (over 20lb), my friend Perch landed a 10lb fish, plus a few jacks were caught, while spincasting for pinks.

Late July thru late August!!!  It was better earlier in the year!!  Then it slowed a fair amount and was spotty at best!!  :-\ Go 3-4 days with nothing, then hit 4 in about 1.5 hrs!! ;)

Perhaps!!  But my Sturgeon hole is only about 10 min from there as well!!! ;D ;D
