'The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is being flooded with calls for change after a parliamentary committee examined how the federal agency conducts, interprets and acts on its own science.' - Victoria Times Colonist March 21, 2023

A recent report from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans (FOPO) has concluded DFO has to completely overhaul how it evaluates and draws conclusions on the science done that is used to support policy recommendations for salmon farms on the BC Coast. Overall the committee found DFO does incomplete science that excludes information and research from independent scientists, First nations and other stakeholders and that senior DFO Offcials that handle the salmon farming file are too closely connected to the industry.
