Ice fishing rod guides not alligned ??
« on: December 22, 2022, 12:03:37 PM »

I bought an ice fishing rod from sea run and fly (shakespeare fuel ice combo) and I just noticed the guides aren't aligned ? I did a search and there isn't really a clear answer I could find. the first guide is pretty normal but the top 3 are all angled about 40 degrees right? What am I missing? Im gonna be fishing close to Merritt.

I suspect that the guides are angled by design.

Call up your local tackle store and they will have the answer for you.

I suspect that the guides are angled by design.
Exactly.
When you are ice fishing,
1. If you are standing on the ice, the rod should be held and pointed at 55 degree angle toward the hole
2. If you are seated in a shelter, the rod should be held at 30 degree angle
3. If you are using a tip up and the rod is unattended, the rod placed on an upward 50 degree angle

The angling of the rod guides 40 degrees off centre is meant to compensate for these various rod postures given the angling environment.

No, don't thank me. It makes no sense whatsoever. That was pure, unadulterated BS! I was just having a bit of fun.  ;D

Merry Christmas, and tight lines beneath the ice!

Cheers
