Chilliwack River, July 20th 2013
« on: July 20, 2013, 12:20:33 PM »

Decided to give the river a go this morning. This was my third trip up an the previous 2 had given me 3 springs and a handful of sockeye. Got to my lower river spot at 5am, the one downfall of this time of year is how early one has to get up to fish. Started working my roe down the run and on the second cast my float was buried, fish on. It took straight to the air and made it obvious it was a sockeye, I can't believe how some of these guys just attack the roe. Let it go gently and kept working through the run just to hook 2 more socks and it became evident there was nothing but socks in the run today. I moved onto another run at around 6:30. In my experience as soon as the sun hits the water the springs disappear so I knew my time was limited. This run had 2 guys leaving with a spring each, both small but still made me happy to know I was in the right spot. An hour yielded nothing at all and didn't even see any socks showing. Sun began to hit the water but I pushed on and was rewarded around 8:30. The fight was a tough one, a big back and forth struggle and I knew I had a bigger fish. I finally ended up winning and the fish came ashore for a good whack on the head. The guy beside me guessed 15 pounds, I said 18. Was really curious so I took it to the store to get weighed. We were both wrong and this beauty female ended up being 22.4 pounds, we were way off ::) that ended my day, one more weekend to give it a go and it should be just about finished, get out there gents, tight lines!
