Today is one of the bleakish days I have experienced during my fishing days.

Phil told me there has not been drift nets above the Mission Bridge in nearly 100 years.

How long will it take and more drift nets will be allowed in other areas. Terrible, terrible or am I over reacting. :-\

Probably the beginning of the end for the Sockeye stocks. There estimating a good push of fish there year but what if it never materializes? The fish we be cleaned up by the time it's closed and this years run will be a disaster. Whoever voted liberal is paying for it pretty badly right now!

no chris your not over reacting
just showing your concern for a precious resource

what id like to know is where are all these bands when it comes time to staffing a hatchery, or taking care of a clay slide, or picking up garbage,

or can i not see them because of there ski masks ??????

Looks like its time the sportfishermen fought fire with fire.

 :-\
I say a blockade on the Fraser and whichever road the FN are using to transport these driftnet caught fish to market. Heck if I had a cheap tin, I'd even make a set just to defy DFO to charge me. And have the media to film it all.

We've been given the royal hev-ho.

 :-\
How about a protest Freshwater license burning at Island 22 or Peg and committmernt to angle the rest of the year without getting a replacement. At the same time, request all Canadians to refrain from buying a angling license.

Didn't DFO signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Cheam Band last year whereby the former has to give the latter advance notice that they were going to monitor their fishing ?  What a total crock !  >:(

As Doc Sg said, this kinda stuff has been happening to much more endangered stocks for years. As people care so much about the precious sockeye then it may be the time right now to launch a protest ,all user groups need to lighten up on the stocks though.

How about a Class action lawsuit... all the fraser fishermen go and sue for all the money they have put into rod, reel and tackle. I just started in this sport and i'm in about 5 hundy. I'm sure you guys can match that.
Whatever is done it has to be something that gets attention... and something serious... something that can't be ignored, (and I don't mean anything illegal) And how do you get the government to take you seriously? You cost them money, that's how.
Just some thoughts.

More good news as FOC struck a deal with Cheam to allow drift nets in the Fraser River from Jones Hill to Jespersons.

Now for the good news they will be able to fish from 5 am to 11am and 5pm to 11 pm 5 days a week. Not sure what days so when out on the river you will have lots of drift nets to avoid. ???

As well they will be coming by your fishing spots in these areas so be prepared to pull your rods.

Also set net opening starting tomorrow from Mission Bridge to Sawmill Creek for 96 hours.

I am starting to worry how can the fish stocks handle this pressure. >:(

A foot note: it seems if you break the law you get what you want.

Sorry new to these parts; where approx. is Jones Hill to Jespersons? Is that a large area? More than 10 km?

Jones Hill is just at Herrling Island. The hill you climb on Hwy. 1 maybe 5 miles or so from the Hwy. 9 intersection at Popkum.

Jespersons is the bost launch area a couple of miles or so above where the Harrison River meets the Fraser.
