Fraser Gravel Removal Powerline Bar
« on: September 12, 2008, 12:25:41 PM »

The SDA just received this from the Fraser Basin Council - It is so nice to see them carrying out their mandate to improve and rebuid the Fraser River Salmon stocks by actively working to support the removal of spawning and rearing areas.

Brings a tear to my eye.

Sent on behalf of Wes Shoemaker,

EMBC is pleased to inform you that work began, on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, to remove 39,000 cubic metres of gravel and sediment at Powerline Bar. An independent environmental monitor, with the authority to halt work if any concerns arise, is on site to ensure excavation is conducted under strict environmental guidelines to protect fish habitat. All authorizing agency approvals are in place and gravel will be extracted between Sept 9th and 15th.
This work is a joint project between Emergency Management BC and the Cheam Indian Band.  Work is being conducted by Link’s Contracting and Aggregate Ltd., the contractor hired by Cheam Indian Band. Gravel will be removed from the secondary channel on Powerline Bar on the north bank of the Fraser River near the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge.

This work is part of a multi-year, multi-site gravel removal program conducted to reduce the flood risk in the interest of Public Safety. For more information please contact:

Manager, Flood Protection Program

Emergency Management BC ........what the f%&k is that another bad joke. Goes hand in hand with the Flood Protection Program and Fraser Basin Council. More goofy names to keep everyone confused on who's really calling the shots..... the people who want cheap gravel to sell. Providing political donations to the governing Liberals to secure that they can remove the gravel, under the guise of flood protection etc..

The sad part is that the public buys what they're selling.  I'm in no way bashing on Canadians, we Americans are just as ignorant.  I am making a general statement about how willing the public is to buy a load of #$%^ from politicians and not call them out on it.  What's also sad is that they seem to easily get off the hook when someone does call them out.
