great link re centrepins.although i cant agree with names they use,loop cast is infact a wallis cast,wallis cast is in fact nottingham cast as used on my local river trent,never tried other 2. there are other types of centrepins.i.e.aussie style where you turn reel sideways to cast,shakespeare LINCOLN is a superb example of these (cheap on ebay),also the old style reels with casting brake.eg.GYREX,also cheap on ebay.but you need quite a bit of casting weight with latter.

I think the cast you're talking about is pull lines from each loop and hold with your each finger, and flick out. this you don't need long back swing.
