This indeed true...Licences are not required until they reach 16 yrs.

I'm a bit rusty on freshwater regs, but for crabbing that is tidal and ALL people need a license to fish tidal water; however, if you are under 16yrs of age the license is free.  This is why your kids need a license for crabs, but that regulation would not apply to non-tidal water.  I don't know the Stave, does it have a tidal portion?  If so, and that is where you are going then your kids will certainly require a license---but it's free.

The teacher is correct. C&R on salmon for kids no license is required. Only when they want to keep salmon that they will need license.
It used to be both tidal and non-tidal in order for kids to keep their catch they will need license (though free) or else the quota will count towards
the adult supervising the kids.
However, nowadays, unless you are adding salmon stamp or other conservation stamps angling shop usually won't even write a license for kids under 16yrs.
But it is better to insist on getting one for your kid(s) under 16 (tidal).

No freshwater licnence is required for children even if they intend to keep fish. For salt water, children require a free license. If they wish to retain salmon then they must purchase a salmon stamp.

Not quite correct. In non-tidal, BC residents under the age of 16 can fish without a licence and stamps, and are allowed to retain their quotas of fish.

Yeh, before I turned 16, I didn't have a freshwater license, and was entitled to my own quota.
