(someone has photos from) pegleg Sept.5?
« on: September 06, 2005, 09:38:34 AM »

I went there first time bb Sunday, it was quite a traumatic experience waking up at 4am just to realize that even that was too late. Got there 7am and the place was a zoo, would appreciate if someone took any pics of the crowds as no one outside the meat fishing community would believe me.

On the fishing side, I had it all (or not), broke my new rod  :'(, had one birdsnest after another (everytime I sit down on the beach to untangle my line one guy shows up and takes my spot...), at least 5 hooks lost because of constant snagging, AND NO FISH!. People left and right are reeling in one after another, not me.

There must be other places to go I am sure, and no one would probably release that kind of information on the forum, but hey, someone may have a heart for beginners that can't cast straight for 5 hours standing shoulder to shoulder to seasoned hunters, maybe pm me, I would certainly appreciate.

Probably bad timing from my side, but this had nothing to do with recreation...I will go back though once I got the hang of it, until then I stick to bottom fishing for trout which isn't a bad fish either...

Just dont fish with the guys at pegs leg. Go fish the bigger flow at the bottom of pegs leg. Youll get a fish, and you will have all the space in the world!

Yeah, Peg's a bit crowded. (note - photo cropped to maximize appearance of crowd  ;D )

But people will move if you yell enough about having a big fish on:

A BIT crowded?! :o

fengyuanfei, don't be discouraged, Peg Leg does not represent the overall picture of river fishing for salmon in BC. :) Once you get a hang of it (river fishing), you wouldn't want to go back. ;)

Coming up in the next two weeks, we expect the pink salmon fishing to be excellent down here (where I saw you last time). The coho fishing will be fantastic from mid September until mid November. Coho salmon fishing can be done at the Vedder River, Stave River, Chehalis River, Capilano River by simply float fishing with roe. The chum fishing will start from mid October to late November. If Squamish River reopens, float fishing for them can be very fun.

Once winter rolls around, it's steelhead time from December until April. :) Accompanying the steelhead will be dolly varden, bull trout, cutthroat trout. Then it's spring again... rainbow trout fishing will pick up as the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery begins its stockings at local lakes...

It never ends. ;)

FYF - Were you the new guy looking to fish, with an older rod, and new Abu? Wearing black boots?

If you're a beginner, might I suggest you practice your casting before heading out. Saves you alot of grief when you're on the river.

Getting your vehicle stuck in the river is really good for the enviroment isnt it...... >:(

Maybe before driving into water you are unsure of, get out and check first. Sheesh

Do the human test before driving in.

Walk into it, if water goes above head, it's too deep to drive across. In DS's case, if water goes above crotch area, it's definitely too deep to drive across. ;D

There is also the visual test... If water appears muddy, it means that it is shallow as the water's coloured up from the mud bottom. ;D

Rodney, thanks for the heads up. How do you floatfish for coho? Is there a link on the forum explaining the details about this technique? I heard it is more difficult and requires a bit more training, similar to flyfishing...

I will go to Richmond probably this week after work, hope to see you there, I would really want to get some of those salmon ID cards you have. I was out there Sunday, and there were tons of commercial boats out (I read in the paper yesterday it was a protest fishery...)

DragonSpeed, it wasn't me you saw...no Abu reel for me.

Thanks for the pictures everyone, isn't that hilarious?
