winter springs vancouver harbour
« on: February 27, 2005, 11:34:42 AM »

Fished 4 hours yesterday in the thick fog around the lions gate to point atkins during the flood tide. We picked up 4 Springs all under sized one was 21" , 3 1/2 " under the limit . The fog was very thick with out a cumpass or gps you would have got lost . A far cry from the west coast fishing but still fun and i've got my first Chinooks of 2005 allready so it was a fun day.   Today were just getting ready to go up to the far end of the Pitt lake to see if we can't pick up a few rainbows or Bull trout will post another report tonight.

We picked them up between 50 to 75 feet we were fishing in about 100 feet of water they were all taken on spoons the black and white coyote in 3 1/2 " picked up 3 of the four fish . The fourth fish was taken on a 4" army truck spoon this rod was rigged with no flasher and was not on a downrigger it was weighted with a 8 ounce slip weight. All the fish were hooked in the same spot about 1 mile north of the boat launch at ambleside we picked them all of heading against the tide which was flooding at the time of the hook ups. Im not sure how deep the slip weight rod was but judging by the angle of the line i would estimate 25 to 30 feet . Our trooling speed was fairly quick acoording to my GPS about 2 1/2  miles an hour, this is agood speed for springs on the west coast but here I have read and been told dead slow. Dead slow was not working for us as soon as we sped up we started to hit fish. Hope this will help any one trying there luck.
