the s'quish wed nov 10 2004
« on: November 11, 2004, 08:27:50 AM »

the s'quish near mouth of mamquam from 10 am until 4pm

water level a wee high but totally fishable, weather was WARM - t-shirt was fine. gorgeous gorgeous day.

lots of chum, no coho or springs seen. fish are biting on wool, mainly red, shrimp and some green colours.

chum are in decent shape but no 100% chromers...smallest about 6lbs, biggest a nice 14 pound buck...too many hooked to recall all. definitely some keepers but I still have lots of fish in the freezer,

nice scene change from the vedder...and the water level should improve to the weekend...

deed for the day....

we came upon an isolated pool of water about 20 feet long and 10 feet wide (likely a result of the recent rains and following receding of water)...the small pool had about 20 stuck chum in it. most of the fish were still in excellent shape with a bunch of females and males...we lifted them out and transported back to river about 10 feet away from the pool itself. ironicallu saw quite a few fisherman walk by it and do nothing at all...oh well, the chum were quite excited to be back in the river again....i know they are only chum and lots of them, but it just seemed wrong to let them die like that...

THAT WAS A GOOD DEED OF THE DAY  dennisK.
i too was there at the vicinity of mamquam river,by the railroad museum.from 11:00am to 4:00pm
water level  was very fishable, hook a lot of chums but did'nt keep any until the time of the incoming tide from 2-4.wave after wave of fish are coming in. one fly guy that fish near me say's that two wild coho are landed upstream. there are about 20-30 anglers in the bar.
finally my first chrome buck at 3:30 followed right away by a nice white belly(7lbs.) doe.
i always release a fish gently, either by hand or guide it by my wading shoes to the deeper water.(don't wanna touch those fish with fungus ;D)
tight lines!

Sounds nice... What was the water visibility?

I see the water has dropped from 4.5m to 3.0m since Tuesday night. :) A few more feet will be fantastic...... The freezing level tonight will do it. ;) Still haven't had a chance to connect with my chrome chum yet. :-[

I was in a tackle shop the other day and they tell me there are cohos in the upper regions of the Squamish.

Not a great system if you are after hatchery coho, as they are rare. Few wild coho around, better chance for hatchery fish in Chekamus River as most fish are heading up to Tenderfoot Hatchery.

Thanks for the visibility report Smoggy.
