Mike!

Welcome.

I have never fished those lakes, but here are the questions you can answer first to help those that do know the lakes help you.

What kind/length etc. rod are you using?
Boat/shore?
What kind of lure/bait etc are you using?
What species of fish do you think you want to catch?

Lots of questions, but it will help others answer you better.

Cheers!

You'll catch carp in both Deer and Bby Lk.   Also some stocker trout, brown bullheads and northern pikeminnows.  Try using a worm under a float or off the bottom.

To fish at Sasamat is easy.  Fish at the fishing dock.  Use a floater.  The line to the hook should be at least 5ft long.   Depends on day.  The key is to use Powerbait.  Trout Powerbait does the trick.

powerbait usually works very well after the lakes have been freshly stocked.  The fish that remain after all the heavy fishing are the smart ones that won't take powerbait.  In which case they'll take a carefully tied chronie  ;D

Worms under a bobber does quite well.

Anyway, I caught my first fish at Deer Lake when I was young. I also caught my first fish on my very first cast with a spinner. The recommended lure to fish deer lake for trout? Spinners. As for carp fishing at the lake, the secret ingredient is peanut butter.

Easyest way to learn is to go with someone who knows what there doing and can show you proper techniques and tackle.
