It amazes me when I post this hundreds of people read it, why do others not do the same as I am not at the river every day. I need to get Rod to pay me for every hit this thread gets.lol
Thanks Chris. I stopped going to the Vedder for the season, but still wondering what's going on  ;D ;)

Hi Chris,
I appreciate reading your up dates on the river even though I can't get up there as much as I used to..

River has color this AM but the chum were biting, too many to get by them to see if any coho salmon around. I think they are finished in the lower anyway.

Drove up to the Slab. Ton of cars parked just below Tamahi along the road. That must be the hot spot. Rivers up and coloured.

I went this afternoon for 30 minutes to see if the bite from this morning was still on, missed 2 and then hooked a bright coho in the 8 pound range thrashed about and then headed downstream with me in hot pursuit. fought it for around 3 minutes and then it fell off, a good battle anyway. Water is colored but fishable.

. Good stuff Chris. I might be able to get out a bit later this week to try my hand again.

Fished the lower this morning. Water was on the high side but viz seemed pretty good. Got a few takes but didn't land any. Was with a friend who is on his first season fishing for salmon and didn't want to send him home without landing at least one fish so we decided to try the Stave as I was there on sunday and it was non-stop. Skunked there too. My first day of the salmon season without a single fish landed. Sounds like we should have just headed up-river instead.

Upriver wasn't that good either. Hit a few places, had a few takes but no fish to hand. All chum, pretty coloured.

Good chum fishing today for me on the lower river. I had eight hookups shortfloating jigs. Five fish came to hand, from which I harvested a beautiful large doe, bright like a dime with hardly any stripes. All chum of course, no coho seen.
Water was about 2 feet visibility, high and very cold.
Still trying to warm up my toes here at home.
Salmon season on the Vedder is definitely winding down, but there is still quite a few chum in the river.

Yes lots of nice chum to harvest. It is best to fish as low down as possible. Personally I hardly fish above the Crossing.

River stayed nice throughout the entire day as rain held off until mid afternoon today. A couple of coho salmon started the day right, followed by some very fresh chum salmon.

With the rain ahead, I think this was probably the end of a rather interesting and good season.

I use a Moby net.

http://www.mobynets.com/our-nets.html

The model is called D&K Special, has a hoop size same as the Steelhead, with a longer handle. You'd have to email Don on the website if that is the one you'd like.

I float fish the jig for chum salmon, while the coho salmon was caught on a twitching jig with the spinning rod.
