Fishing Restaurant in Japan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvoAZqx14Xo

Sounds cool but I wound up hating the whole concept, as it lacks respect for the fish. Still worth watching because it's so novel.

Not a fishing video, but a wildlife video. I thought it was cool

Loved that! Amazing how a random log can provide so much value to so many different species in different ways.

Love this video from 2013 of chum salmon swimming from the ocean up tiny Beadnell Creek on Denman Island. The creek is obviously full of water following a good rain

I like watching locally shot videos, if only so I can poach spots! :)

Came across this channel last night. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDdKAeH2yjFFUmSQp9y5XoQ

The treatment of the wild cutthroat at 10:10 and 14:27 is disgusting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKnMzwNOryI&t=867s

Equally so is the treatment of this foul hooked "steelhead" at 10:40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVhL3PQU3g4&t=657s

I give room for naive enthusiasm. We all started out as learners, but my graciousness wears thin with two adults who have a YouTube channel.

In a video posted this past summer they spoke about learning how to release fish better, so I had hope that their treatment of fish improved over time. It did not.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKZQQG2bry4&t=218s, see 3:38

I hesitate posting the links b/c the don't need additional audience until their behaviour improves, but their channel needs more than just me being a raving lunatic.

Ben and Dean: if you are out there, do better! There are many helpful anglers who will show you better ways to land and release fish unharmed. Sometimes you have to sacrifice your ego and knowing how much a fish weighs, or showing it to the camera, for the welfare of the fish.

That wild coho that was caught on a barbed hook was out of the water flapping around in the mud for 3 minutes almost

That first video is removed or made private. there are at least a dozen other videos just as bad or worse so comment away

The FWR Army (er...positive peer pressure) :) showed up. The one video has more dislikes than likes and got pulled. Some commenters had their comments deleted, mine included. (Ralph was very direct, and rightly so)

I don't want to watch their videos, jack up their views and have them marvel at how popular they are, but these "gentlemen" need online pressure to start behaving differently.

actually they have deleted that video. It was posted about a year ago and in videos they did later last year, fish handling was better. Still can't stand to see that one fellow stick his finger down the throat of a 8 inch wild cutty. Can't they buy a pair of foreceps?

I don't think this is at all unusual practice for people who start fishing for trout and salmon with little experience or awareness of what they need to know. Sad but true. Lot's of small wild trout, steelhead and salmon die as a result.

The video is not deleted, just made private so hidden from the public.

I refuse to believe that this is a common practice when there is so much educational content made available across social media. I also think these two are not as intellectually well. Not saying that to be insulting, but just based on what I'm seeing in several videos. Terrible considering the number of incidental kills is very likely to put a dent on the populations especially when fishing in some pretty ecologically sensitive areas.

I actually did not say it was common practice. Rod perhaps your beliefs are partially influenced by only fishing in the finest places with the finest company.

I'd like to clarify the comments I made. I pointed out that 2 of those cutthroat were almost certainly dead. That cutthroat in Fraser Valley streams don't add up to more than a few thousand. I suggested they might think of not fishing for them with bait and when they released them they keep the fish in the water. I also directed them to the Provincial Synopsis and pointed out where they could find the recommendations regarding releasing their catch.

Tough love?
