Deer Lake, June 2nd 2014
« on: June 02, 2014, 11:43:28 PM »

Had a Biology project to do which involved taking pictures of certain types of plants so I decided to go down to Deer for 2 hours to do that. It was more like 10 minutes of work and the rest fishing. Warmer weather means lots of grass and plenty of bass. The bass have grown a lot and an average fish fights way better than those pellet fed trout. Fished top water and sub surface, throwing a Texas rigged 5 inch pink steelhead worm and jerking it back, amazing the action it has. Watching them explode on it never gets old. Gonna try punching through the grass for some bigger ones later on. Lots of carp jumping and bluegill in the shallows.

Sad the  government has refused to do anything about the illegal stockings.  They should shut the lakes down like they do with some interior ones when invasive fish are found.

Curious what interior lakes have been shut down due to invasive species?

Gardom Lake has been killed off around 3 times in the last 15 years from this.

Also went fishing deer lake today, caught a few small small bass off the dock with my super special shiny metal (SSSM) and no weight. Moved spots, added weight for distance and caught a size able trout near the bottom with my SSSM after a few hours of playing.

Truth that even the tiny bass I caught faught like no other, I would like to see a 1lb+ bass fight.

That makes more sense. I couldn't understand a lake being "shut down"

Do we have a positive ID on the bluegill?  Anyone caught one yet?

It must be a private lake of the university. There was a report on Langley Times that they electrocuted the lake to eliminate invasive species.
