Cap June 10
« on: June 11, 2004, 09:16:51 AM »

Fished the cap last night after work.  Caught a little chromer, about 2 lbs on roe in the cable pool.  Saw one other caught, and a steely.  I guess once darkness falls, the snaggers come out and play.  Saw two fellows there, one kept a foul hooked Coho, and lost the other foul hooked when he saw me watching over.  I saw him deliberately dragging thru the pool.  Who are you kidding when the fish comes in tail first, and you pretend that the huge 2 lb coho is fighting so hard you have to chase it around the corner where nobody can see you.   BS man.

Actually they weren't natives.  One was wearing a green jacket, and was oriental, the other was white, and was wearing a blue jacket.  They were both quite young, maybe early 20's.  I remember what they look like.  So you see these guys, watch them, they do it again.  Give them the good old toss in the river.

I think the natives who illegally harvest salmon tend to stick to areas where they won't get hassled as much.  On their reserves they do whatever they want being out of normal jurisdiction.   I mean the law says you can't keep a foul hooked fish, so that should go for everybody, no matter what race.

Can't we all just get along and catch fish legally in the chops.

 >:( You would think with all the digital cams these days that record short movies ... One could get and post video of these idiots... caught in the act. No commentary or acusations ( for legal reasons) just the video.

In order to do so you would have to hide, not let them see you.  Most people who keep foul hooked fish, know they are breaking the law.  If somone else is there, they will most likely let the fish go.   This guy thought he would fool everyone by moving out of sight to kill the fish.  I saw that fish in the water, and it wasn't swimming right during the battle.  It would be tough to get it on camera.

Hey, man, this type of snagging and killing happens all the time at the Cable pool and I don't even fish the Cap. I love to go run there and sometimes I stop by to watch the snaggers before dark. I've seen that too many times and it's absolutely sickening. One night I saw a couple of dudes, like the ones you described, walk out in the dark with huge sacks full of fish, man. And the friggin' bag looked really heavy. Too bad, man. Such a nice river screwed over by bogus snaggers and rank  amateurs.

Max Tschaare (sp) a DFO officer whose responsibilities include the Capilano has been trying for years to catch this one snagger but to no avail. This snagger is known to "catch" his limit in the morning then return later in the day to "catch" another limit. My friend has seen him on the Seymour snagging steelhead from the Pipeline Bridge. Matter of fact I saw him on the Capilano just last week but he wasn't fishing that day.

He's caucasian, approx. 6' 1" wears a grey vest.  He's actually quite easy to spot: he's the one that "setting" the hook on every cast. I know his first name but am reluctant to broadcast it as he has never been charged or convicted. Most of the regulars know who he is......
