I was on the Vedder the other day, caught nothing, but one thing caught my eye.
Many fly fishermen out, say 15, and not one using a single handed rod.
Not one.
Justa whippin' and rippin' those spey lines.
That's because you didn't run into me and my faithful 8-weight Sage XP.
I wouldn't mind if at least some of those guys were using spey or scandi lines, which require a degree of skill level, but almost everyone out on the Vedder these days casts Skagit lines, which can be thrown out there with hardly any training at all.
The way Skagit line casting disturbs the water by frothing it, it is unlikely that there is any fish around them anyway, so I just give them a wide berth.
Fortunately for the rest of us, most spey guys like to stick to one same run for hours on end. And they prefer the ugly lower river, so who cares?
So, when are you buying a spey rod, Sasha?
