Would there be any jacks in the lower Vedder now ? What would you use to catch them ,and would they go for spinners ?

Yes they should definitely be trickling in by now.  I've caught 'em on spinners before, but had far more success using bait... short-floated roe is very effective.  Get out there and explore and give us a report of how it goes!   :)

might be the odd fish around, first week of Sept will see more, 2nd week game on...no reason not to try, either go first light or play the high tide. Use good roe short float. I am going to start fishing end of next week.

they are in there, but it took many many many hours to find one.

P.S.
Visit bentrods.ca get your self some spinners.
They are Very efficient for springs/coho
They hold my highest praise.

A nice dump of rain would also help to push the fish up the river. Have not had any real amounts of rain in the Chilliwack area for weeks.

A nice dump of rain will just move fish up the river and right into the hatchery. Lower water levels slow fish migration allowing anglers more opportunity to fish in ideal conditions.

Yup, once it rains and the river bumps up, they shoot straight up. Lower water can be better for the fish hold up at the mouth and push in the mornings or on tides, last year for example the fishing was fantastic and then it rained, it got slow, fish "shoot up". That being said you don't want to low of water.

you could also try 15lb florocarbon leader with number 2 hook and very small piece of bubble gum pink wool in clear water, worked well for me last year.

Bryan, I'd love to hear more details on that spring...for starters, you were on the vedder in a boat so I am guessing you were trolling that spinner down in the mouth ie between the #1 and the fraser?

were you flat lining the spinner, using some weight to get it down???  any other info you care to share?

So i took the family out the enjoy the beautiful scenery and to explore  a little bit for the up and coming coho/spring run,we only saw one fellow fishing and he was tossing flies smacking trout as for us we tried roe for a while with no luck so we switched over to shrimp and before i know it my oldest son landed his first trout of the year and it wasn't long before his little brother was doing the same. After a half day of playing in the lower river we decieded to pack it up and head her home as for the conditons she's in perfect shape water had nice color to it with about 4' of clarity,i would say their gonna start to show up anytime now as i normally start hitting them jack's around this time of year the earliest for me is the 1st week of sept and then the odd coho until we get into mid sept when its game on.

Cheers and tight lines everyone
