A friend has recently taken up an interest in fishing, and has been asking me to take him out pretty much every weekend this spring. We've made it out twice, both times to Como Lake, where we haven't had much luck.
Buntzen is such a beautiful location, nestled amongst the heavily treed hills, and the water is so clear and cold! Not many fish were moving on this trip, but we decided to kick around our float tubes anyway in hopes of enticing a fish.
30 minutes in and we hadn't had a touch, so we started kicking towards another location on the lake. Not long after that decision, my rod bucked in my hand and it was fish on! This fish pulled far harder than any others I've caught from Buntzen, and my blood was racing. My buddy was laughing like a little kid, we hadn't caught anything in previous trips and he was pretty stoked to see that going fishing actually could lead to catching a fish once in a while! lol
Unfortunately the fish came unbuttoned shortly after I hooked up, and the we went another 45 minutes without a take after that. Finally I decided to switch flies, and as I was stripping in my olive micro-leech to change it, WHAM! another bite! This fish wasn't as lucky as the previous one, and 5 minutes later I had a nice little 11" trout to hand. I held her up for a quick photo, and then let her swim back into the depths.
That was the last bite of the day though, even though others around us kept hooking up we had no such luck. We couldn't stay long anyway as my buddy had a dinner date with his fiance, but it was a great day to be out and I'm sure we'll be back again.
