i dont think camera skills have anything to do with. Ive only seen played out fish stay still

Actually camera skills have a lot to do with it :D why do you think there are so many sh*tty pics of dead fish that are laying there perfectly still ::)

play the fish, take gloves off while playing it, iphone ready, bring er in, snap off a bunch of consecutive shots, maybe 4 or 5. Hopefully one of these shots turns out. They don't always turn out very good in which case I don't bother posting them up. Here is one from yesterday that  did not turn out very good, was the best shot of 4 frames.

Went over this last year and like I said then if you want to bring a hot fish thrashing into the shallows for a super quick release go for it! I accidentally snapped one off today doing exactly that. I would much rather just let them take their run or two so they glide in easily as they are  often lost thrashing and rolling in the shallows

Actually, I happen to think that is quite a fantastic shot, hue-nut.  We always see pictures of fish out of water in the angler's hands, or on the rocks, or even underwater with a submersible camera, but rarely do we see a nice clear photo of an underwater fish taken from above the surface!  The swirls and patterns from the water's surface tension look incredible against the fish.

Very cool.

I agree with you on that Tex, I would like to see how it looks without the Sepia or whatever effect he used there  ;D

Hue-nut has also mentioned more than once he takes most his pics with his iphone. I know from owning one that it only takes a couple seconds to get the camera up and ready, at least you can do the effects later on though  ;D still no idea how he gets the fish to co-operate

I also have the same problem with every fish i catch, the problem of not being able to get them calm while not holding their tail or at least a hand across the belly to calm them. I also think its been a few years since i even got a pic of a wild steelhead because im usually to busy admiring them as i remove the hook and revive and release them to continue their journey  ;D ;D ;D ;D

hatchery ones of course are easy to take pictures of because they are stone cold dead !!! LOL

most cameras take a couple of seconds to set up and take a pic, its the resting your rod on the fish while trying to get it to lie still that takes all the time

Until today I had only used metal finish Colorado blades. For some reason I made an impulse buy at Fred's this morning. It turned out to be a good thing.

Finally landed my first stealhead using my gear setup today! I still prefer fighting them on my fly rod.

It spat the hook. I just put it outside the mouth just to show what I caught it on.

Took time off from installing laminate flooring for a friend to do a little fishing this morning. I had started the day fishing a small run up above Allison Canyon. Despite the water clarity being terrific I was not rewarded with any hits as I drifted a variety of purple and pink leeches under a strike indicator before switching to a sinking tip to swing through the tail end of the run. I headed downriver to another nice run in the mid river section and swung away with my 8 weight single handed Sage, but lost my versa tip on a hang up mid river. Discouraged I headed down the river as the rain started to really come down. I was contemplating packing it in for the day when I noticed there were no cars parked at my lower river run. I parked and walked down to the river and began swinging a pink squidro fly at the top of the run. Since I no longer had my versa tip on, I was relying solely on my clear camo sink tip to get the weighted fly down. I proceeded to cast and swing and step down the run and was finally rewarded with a headshake as the fly reached the middle of the run. I set the hook and battled this 14 pound hatchery buck to the beach for my first steelhead of the season.
