Local fishing secret
« on: October 13, 2010, 04:18:01 PM »

Don't know why this is being kept so quiet.

I just got back from having a tour of the Gibbs fishing tackle plant here in Delta.  I was actually there on a product quality issue which was handled very politely and positively.  While waiting I was escorted on a full plant tour - I guess I hit them on one of their rare slower days.

I was first impressed by their hospitality and gracious way they treated me during my visit.  I was equally surprised to learn, and see first hand that their whole process is right here in a local facility, hiring local people, paying local taxes.

Everything from stamping out the basic blades & spinners, through hand polishing each one, manually inspecting, plating, painting, and dealling each lure is done right here, and with great care.  Quality and attention to detail seem to be a priority.  Their commitment to Canadian content extends right through to printing and making their own packaging.  All their components from lead casting to net manufacturing is done right here.  WOW!

Please consider supporting this local Gibbs brand whenever your purchasing new gear.  I will !!!

Gibbs is great, I bought one of their crocs that had silver flash on it, well it came off after a few casts so I emailed them to tell them it wasn't long lasting...sure enough they sent me a whole package of flash sticker tape....a life times worth haha...i was quite grateful comes in handy for my other creations

Sounds like they turned around a less than ideal situation.  Glad to hear they stepped up to address any issues head-on, rather than ignoring dissatisfied customers.

Hey Assassin - I don't know if they regularly offer tours.  I think I happened to be there at a time when they had a little extra time.  It might be a good idea for them to do that maybe once a year.  As for samples - they were being so nice I didn't have the heart to ask.  Wouldn't have minded even getting a handful of just blades to finish at home.
