Orca eating halibut
« on: August 28, 2010, 01:45:57 AM »

We've seen sea lion stealing salmon on the line, seals stealing salmon on the line, shark stealing tarpon on the line, how about orca stealing halibut on the line?

Are orcas or any whale for that matter known to attack boats?  I'd be more worried about it getting pissed off that it never got the fish and attacking the boat

Interesting vid for sure !!! What a wonderful creature...
Well I guess between bringing in a fish...& seeing an Orca ...the one handling the cam was "just alittle excited."
Looked like a baby Orca but nevertheless BIG LOOKING as who sees these creatures next to their boat....normally

Like the story just a few yrs ago where a boater (near the Gulf Islands I think) had a harbour seal jump into the motor well (back of the boat)  It just sat there as Orcas were cruising the waters nearby & this seal knew it was on the menu.
It took it's chances by trusting the owners of the boat !!!
(alan ...did ya ever hear the Mody Dick story?) Ya I too wonder if a big Orca or any large whale may just decide to capsize a boat or ram it etc... :o
EXTRA: (side note) Downtown Steveston had traffic jams today ...thought it was the PNE...people must be down to buy the Socks at the dock.
