Celebrating 2007 BC Rivers Day on the Chilliwack River
« on: September 11, 2007, 12:48:13 PM »

Sunday September 30th is BC Rivers Day. In fact, it is now known as World Rivers Day. On this day, hundreds of community events will take place around this planet to celebrate and remember the importance of our precious watersheds.

The Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Coalition would like to invite you to join us on Sunday September 30th for our annual BC Rivers Day Celebration! This year's celebration will be hosted at the Chilliwack Fish and Games Club House (From Vedder Road, turn east onto Chilliwack Lake Road at the Vedder Bridge. Drive for approximately 7km. The clubhouse is located adjacent to the fire hall and across the road from Thompson Park).

There will be a river cleanup hosted in the morning, followed by a BBQ, displays, entertainment and draw prizes in the afternoon.

  • 8:30am - 9:30am: Registration
  • 9:30am - 12:30pm: River cleanup
  • 12:30pm - 2:30pm: BBQ, entertainment, displays, draw prizes

This event is an opportunity for us to say THANKS! to all you dedicated volunteers who have helped us throughout the year. This river cleanup is particularly special because it will be the 20th Vedder River Cleanup since the establishment of the Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Coalition. Tim Horton's donuts and coffee will be available when you sign up in the morning. Fishing will be available by the end of September so you may also want to wet a line in the afternoon after this celebration.

With the support of the angling community, we can improve our recreational fishing quality on the Chilliwack River. Please join us on September 30th 2007 to celebrate the Chilliwack River watershed!

Most of planning has been done for this event that should be the best BC Rivers' Day event the CVRCC has put on. ;D Plenty of prizes once again thanks to the work of Don, displays, entertainment and a free BBQ. ;D ;D ;D An event that should not be missed as well as once again give our precious Chilliwack Vedder River corridor another face lift, for the fishing season just ahead.

Excellent. Looks like we will have have about 9 display including displays from Fisheries and Oceans with two officers attending to answer your fishing questions.

MOE will have their trailer there with some give a ways, two CO's there as well.

Other displays confirmed at this time include Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve, Chilliwack River Hatchery, with some fish to look at, A Cultus Lake Sockeye Recovery display, Go Fish BC (Abbotsford Trout Hatchery), BCIT, Chilliwack River Action Committee and of course CVRCC.
Star FM radio is supposed to be on location as well.

Sundin has sent his regrets. ;D ;D

Tims coffee and donuts ready at 7:30. ;D ;D

Lets have a good turnout from this forum once again. We we can be inside this year if it rains.

Good to see a number of FWR members out at the cleanup today. Great to have a brief chat with a number of you. I will not list who I saw as I may forget someone but once again thanks so much for caring and helping make the CVRCC program a success. Please post your comments on the day and any pictures you may have to share with us.

I received a note from Mark Angelo after sending him some post cleanup pictures. Mark as most of you know started BC Rivers' Day in 1980 with a cleanup just like ours, it was on the Thompson River.

He sends you all a big thankyou in helping share his and our dream of one day having many garbage free rivers in British Columbia.

Once the numbers come in from Lew he or I will post a more detailed report.

Bed time now, tomorrow is a fishing day. ;D ;D ;D

even in the rain there was close to 200 people out there
today i hope  the other rivers day festivities had as good a turn out.

I had a great day out on the river cleaning around the Limit Hole with someone Chris G knows named "U"(spelling? ???) The area wasn`t as messy as I thought it might be but we still managed a pretty good haul of garbage.

It was good to run into Chris, Leadbelly, Canoe Man and Canoe Boy and all the people who I met at the event. If any of the people who helped put on the event are reading I wanted to say thanks for your time and effort in organizing this event. With all the different things going on it must have taken a lot of work to put it all together. Special thank you for the cooks, dishwashers and cleanup crew.

Chris, what was the weight of that humongous Chinook the hatchery guys brought down? I thought they were gonna bbq it up ;)

Cheers

Lew and I cleaned up a few items today to wrap up BC Rivers' Day for another year. We also took in the tins and bottles. We got $47.80 for them for the CVRCC bank account. Thanks to all that took the time to pick them up so they could be recycled. ;D ;D.
