Thats his bread and butter and by doing this you are taking food out of his kids mouths.

Sorry newsman, have to agree with bbronswyk2000 on this one. I've modified the posts and taken out the name.

As for the fly patterns, we can certainly find some time next year to make videos.

I'd have to side with Bryan too. Maybe your flies were no longer instock because they didn't sell. And what he said to you was his attempt not to say "Your flies suck!!!". The thing is for anything to sell it has to catch the customers eye, and then they will find out if it actually works. Something tells me your flies (because you describe them as being matte, or dull with no flash) would not attract the customers eye. I have tied flies for a shop before too, and let me tell you, they look much different then those in my fly box.

I'm with BB on this one to.

I find it hard to believe that a store owner or anyone else would say that there are fly patterns to good to share with anyone. If it was my business I would tell everyone and reap the rewards.

No such thing as to good a fly pattern imo, especially for Salmon in fresh water. Pretty well anything will work. I tie huge amounts of salmon flies every season and there is a real good chance that your patterns and mine and anyone else that ties are similar. Maybe the color combos, size or weights are different but in the end they all work, even though I have no doubt that your particular patterns are a consistent producer.
I still say for consistent successful salmon fishing in fresh water getting the fly down to the fish is more important than the fly. I'm sure there are many that will disagree.

Fly patterns are as good as the confidence you have fishing them.

You were still in the wrong for posting it on an internet forum. Regardless if you are right or wrong. How about you tell me what you do for a living so I can go on a bunch of forums and slander you and the business in which you work? Should be ok right since you find it ok....

Point taken bbronswyk you are right I stand corrected. As a point of reffernce my wife happened to be looking over my shoulder and saw your post and wanted to know what it was all about. Well needless to say she was not impressed. I see the error of my ways, am embarrassed, an apologize for acting in haste with out thinking it all through.

How refreshing to see someone acknowledge a not so well thought out post. Good on ya.

PS - When it comes to black Salmon flies all I've used or tie is either a black or egg sucking leech. Your Flat Black sounds interesting.

The "fly" I'd use would be green wool, tied up to look like Elvis. Worked for me there. I call it a Green Elvis.
