I have the foodsaver and have had it for 5 years now.  Probably used it on 60 fish.  This means roughly 6 filets per fish or 360 vacuum packed pieces.  I also use all the time for frozen chili, soups, jerkey, and anything else you can vacuum pack.  It still runs like the day I bought it, mind you, I am anal about using it gently.

If you get one, try to go into Washington and go to Costco.  No one can touch their prices and return policy.

Not overly impressed with the earlier models of the Foodsaver but I heard the latest Professional III model is good.

I just bought the foodsaver V1205 on Sunday.. $149 at Walmart, works awesome, it is a little more pricy for the higher model but the vacuum is strong and it should last a while :)

I've got a Rival vaccume sealer. Got it from Crappy Tire on sale for like 90bucks. Have never had a problem with it thus far.

I used my Food saver for 2 years and it's lost some of its suction. I took it apart and I found 5 fish scales in the tubes. Got em out and now it really has good suction again.

I have had the same "tillia foodsaver" for 6 years and it is still going strong. It has been used on countless salmon fillets, and I also use it to seal up my game meat from hunting which i butcher myself. Last year alone this 6 year old sealer packaged 26 sockeye, 23 coho, 16 - 20lbs plus springs, 8 ling cod, 9 halibut, 3 mule deer and a moose, oh.... and 200 lbs of bear sausage. I love it. No worries at all leaving meat or fish sealed and frozen for at least a year.
