I had blood all over my shoes and socks last night.

Bonk the fish and bleed it asap before its heart stops. Bleeding the fish in water seems better than in air, because the blood clots up in air fast.  If you can, keep the fish head lower than the rest of the body to help blood draining. After bleeding is done, put the fish in a cooler with ice if that is possible, otherwise try to tie the fish in the mouth with a rope and immerse it deeper in flowing water. Use rocks to keep the fish down. If you do not have a rope, than put leaves on top of the fish to shield it from sun rays and make sure enough cool water flows through the fish.

After you do the bleeding thing , burlap sacks work good to keep your fish fresh and out of the direct sunlight , on a sunny day of course 8).
