River was looking good, albeit a bit coloured....18-24" visibility in the mid and upper sections.
Sure was a lot of anglers out there.
I saw no fish caught, mind you I hiked to areas, that for the most part, had no one around.
I worked runs from head to tail and back again, each time switching up my presentation. Roe, then bead, then pink worm, then Colorado blade..... nothin'....not a sniff.
Well it was about 30-40 mins before dark, as I was walking out of my last spot I decided to try one last area that honestly I tend to just walk past ....as I'm sure others do too.. it's just a small little turn that is not too deep and very short and very close to trees etc...so hard to cast.
I still had a blade rigged up .... First cast.....nothing. Second cast ....almost lost everything to the trees
.... Third cast ....nice one, was able to get a drift going ..... then WHAMMO.. float just disappeared ... was is it snagged?...pulled back but it felt solid ... shoot, a snag thinks I. So I pull again and in return I get a massive head shake...FISH ON!!!! Whoo hooo ....well the battle was on. I had very little room to move around so I held my ground. Then the aerials began ...1 ....2 ....3 What a sight....at this point I could care less about the cold, or my numb fingers etc.. as the adrenaline took over.
I was able to get it out of the fast flow and was getting it closer to me when it did one last mighty jump and in mid air the head shook and I saw my blade go flying out in one direction and the fish in another.....Noooooooo!!!
Lost it .... man what a bummer .... Oh well, sure got me pumped for the season.
Funny how it plays out like a video in the mind for the rest of the night....
Till the next outing ....
Tight lines and a happy new year !!!
