fly rod found at the skagit
« on: August 18, 2008, 07:13:02 PM »

I found my fly rod at the skagit.
It was lost on opening day when I fell in without a life jacket.
Too busy trying to save my life to worry about the rod which fell in also.
Now I wear my life jacket.   I was suprised how fast I sank .   Lucky I grabbed the frame of the pontoon boat just before going down.
Went back this weekend and found the location which I made in my mind by doing what the old time salmon fishers did before gps.
When ever they had great catches in a select location they made three way points like a land marks,  buoy,  rock outcrops,  reefs  etc.   In my case I warmed up enough to look at the logs and shoreline for way points.  Lucky no one found the rod while trolling.
The small amount of air in the rod blanks kept the tip up and that is how I found it.  Also when I fell in the water was heavily silted;  this weekend the water was crystal clear.
What stories do you have about finding your lost gear when fishing.
