Nicomen Slough
« on: September 06, 2022, 04:01:29 PM »

I am trying to determine if the regs have changed for Nicomen Slough or if they are written in a sloppy way.
It says both of these things:
 - 4 hatchery coho (2 over 35 cm) from Siddle's Creek downstream to the Fraser (same as other years)
 - No fishing from Apr 1 until further notice from the Hwy 7 bridge downstream to the Fraser (this is different than last year)

So does this mean we can only fish between Siddle's Creek and the Hwy 7 bridge or is the second part not true because it refers to "until further notice" and the first part is a new "notice".
I swear they try to make it more confusing than it has to be.
Probably not going out for a week or two yet but it's good to get the rules straight.

Thanks in advance.

there is/was signage downstream of the boat launch which marked the boundary of slough and the Fraser. Prior to the IFS closure it would open below that about Thanksgiving . It's been known forever that some coho bound farther up the Fraser will move up into the slough then back out again. Maybe they are looking to adjust that closure to protect those fish. You can try contacting DFO and see if they know when the "further notice" may be issued or just wait for it. Coho don't usually run up the slough until until the last half of October or later.

If you check the regs, all fraser valley chum fishing is closed until further notice.  I guess they think no one fishes coho below the bridge.

The regulations have been updated to clarify the issue :

Thanks! I had a message in to the Langley office but hadn't had a return call yet.
Much clearer.
And now we wait . . .
