I went to Cabela's to try to spend the remainder of a $100 Gift Card my wife gave me for Christmas. I usually shop at Fred's, but since i had the card I figured why not. I had a list; Terminal tackle, Cure, hooks, yellow topped cleardrift floats. Went to fishing department. Float selection was poor to say the least. No yellow topped, and only cleardrift were either 35gms or these tiny little things. Didn't buy any floats. Next to hook aisle. Only Gammy's were huge or tiny...nothing in the 1, 2, 1/0 or 2/0. Frustrated I looked around and found some Trokar??? Very expensive (twice that of Gammy's) i thought what the hell, if they're expensive they must be good. (Wrong) more on that later. Was lucky enough to find the last jar or Pautzke's Red. Headed to river today. Float down bring in an average Buck Chum. Released, look at hook and its bent. Tie on another hook. Proceed to hook into 3 chrome coho only to lose them all at shore. Fed up, I tie on an old Gammy. Float down, nice buck coho around 7lbs brought to beach. Will never ever use those Trokar again. I lose coho on Gammy's as well, but on all three lost the hookset was quick and solid. Fred's please dont ever go away! Cabela's has no clue regarding local fishermens needs. Will use rest of Cabelas card on clothing.
