Lower Fraser - Dollies and Pikeminnows??
« on: December 27, 2009, 09:39:45 AM »

Just looking for a little advice.  Would it be worth trying around Richmond for dollies, pikeminnows, etc or should I be waiting till spring?  Just looking for a little fishing close to home.  Any advice is appreciated.

It is always worth it (then again, depends on how "worth" is defined of course").

Late January 2009: http://www.fishingwithrod.com/blog/?p=79

Late February 2009: http://www.fishingwithrod.com/blog/?p=94

There were a dozen fish-less yet worthy outings in between the two.

Good luck.

Thanx for the quick reply Rodney!!

I will try my luck today.  I just like to get out and was doing it every Sunday during salmon season as I have a couple hours to spare while the wifey and child go to church.   Will be trying out jigs and hopefully will have some success.  Thank you again for the fast reply.

Cool. I'd be interested in how the jigs do. Spinners and flies have been productive for me so even though I have wanted to try jigs or even soft plastics, I've been sticking with what have worked for me.

I forgot to mention, no pikeminnow this time of the year. Bull trout/dollies are the dominant species between now and April.

Well no luck on my brief excursion.  I did not check tides etc...but the day was warm and calm and water was very clear.

FYI anyone going to Triangle area in Richmond, the city has redone the road in and i got a little confused.  STAY TO THE RIGHT after the cement pumphouse otherwise you will be sliding down this hill of mud like I did.  The newer section of road is actually very good.

Very nice. The beach in the second photo looks like a great spot for them, with a few submerged logs, rocks, patches of eel grass. :) I've had fish darting out of no where and attacking the lure or fly in depth and bottom substrate similar to that first photo. Most of the time, I see a flashy body with a trail of mud smoke behind it, very cool. ;)
