cohokid, I run a 13 st croix 7-8 spey blank that works extremely well, I am in the process of picking between the new rainshadow blank or a loop blank for the new rod. I like the speed of the loop 7-8 blank but the rainshadow has much thicker walls.  The rainshadow is also reasonable, w/tich guides you are still around 4 bills

I think anytime you get a rod that lenght your going to be stuck with either a noodle, (light weight) or a pretty stout stick. the spey blanks are very nice but your still gonna be fishing a relatively heavy rod....I think many of the noodle rods still have the backbone to handle big steelies so you should be fine there...I've shyed away from them because the bed of my truck is too short to put them in... :o

They're really great for fishing jigs as it keeps the line off the water much better than with a 10'6" rod.  As to other reasons...take your pick:

1) Gear Ho
2) You think it makes you look cool
3) Why not?
4) Fun to use
5) Perfect accessory to match your entire Simms outfit
6) So you can brag to everyone, especially the women about how long your rod is

A guy with a 13 foot rod will catch more fish than me, with my 9 foot 10 inch rod?

If this is so should I use my 16 foot sage, I should almost  double my catch.

Xgolfman if you ever want to fish a 13 fter let me know, I have a ton of sage rods and others and never use them since I got the longer rod, there is way more line control than you can imagine, nor do you ever have to mend line on the river, I also have a total of about a 25 ft hook set, so very typically do I ever fall short on a hookset when your float is farther than you plan.  the rod I fish will fish 6LB leader right up to fifteen and will handle almost all the fish we chase. anybody wanting to try it can contact me, once you fish it a few days you will never go back. I fish this rod with a 4 in macdonald and a super silex and it fishes extremely well.

I guess you do need a 13 foot rod even if most fish in the vedder are caught 15 feet from shore!
