44 lb SPRING POINT GREY BELL BUOY, SATURDAY MAY 28
« on: June 03, 2005, 11:33:08 AM »

Hey Everyone.

Just thought I would clarify the report of a 60lb Spring that was purportedly caught at the Bell Buoy May 28 in the morning.

THE FISH WAS NOT 60lbs. The fish weighed 38.5 lbs on a scale on Granville Island after the fish had been gutted and the head removed by the guide at the cleaning table.  ;D THUS 44lbs is a reasonable weight for the fishThe fish was caught at 90 feet on the downrigger on an anchovy AT THE POINT GREY BELL BOUY on the morning of the 28th.

How the fish grew to 60lbs is anyones guess, but the fish was apparently seen caught by a few guide boats, and it was a guide boat that hooked and landed the fish. Apparently the next morning, Sunday, a large percentage of the cities guide boats were fishing the area according to a local sporties report. AT WHICH POINT a 36lb and 20lb spring were reported to have been caught.  ;)
Making a few phone calls and that is what I was able to figure out.

Amazing how fish gain weight after they've been bonked. ;D

Lots off the bell boy last weekend.  Only one keeper though.  Spoons at 75'.  Cop Car and Chartreaus with a pink eye.  They didn't touch the anchovies.

Hey Spudcote..I think you have the right idea...Most of the big fish are caught on a flood...and traditionally, the Bell Buoy has been a flood tide spot...not to say that the ebb doesn't work...it does...but when the tide starts honkin.....best find something else...unless you have downriggers and can hold in the current on the dropoff...

Spudcote...let us all know how you make out and what is going on around you! (Of course you always do!)

Tight lines Buddy;D

Fished the bell buoy from ~10:00 to ~12:30, fished anchovies from 75 - 120 ft. Caught nothing, but had one of our baits look like it had been scratched by something.

Other than that, I saw/heard of 3 other fish, all undersized.
