As the season for pink salmon starts winding down, I've added a poll to this thread (thanks to Fishseeker for starting this successful thread). Just a note, the poll is for how many pink salmon you have kept (not landed).

Pretty ridiculous that 2 respondants kept more than 50 pink salmon.  Pinks don't freeze well and I really doubt anyone is consuming 50 pinks in a just as many days, so unless they've got an idustrial smoker in the back yard or own a pet mako shark, a lot of that must go to waste.

I kept 22, but more than half that is already gone. I had a long list requesting smoked salmon.

I've found pinks are ok to freeze. Fresh is best, but I recently cooked a pink steak frozen for a couple weeks and it definitely wasn't mush like I've seen others report. In fact I thought it kept pretty darn good...

I didnt keep anywhere near 50, but about half of the fish I retained went to friends and family who didn't have the opportunity or inclination to go fishing on their own.

I am a little more selfish.  I only ever take one fish at a time and cook them that night or the next.  I will of course invite any who want to come and join me for dinner that evening, but I do not give away the fish I catch.  The exception being I might consume half the salmon (I only have a small family so all but the smallest pink is going to be more than we need in a single meal), and I might smoke the other half to take in and share with my colleagues at work.  I just seems to me that if these folks do not have the inclination to join in the fun of fishing (and support the management of the resource with their license fees) then they can go ahead and buy their fish at the supermarket and support the commercial fishers.

I'm put down that I personally didn't keep any salmon. But I gave away 4 that I caught to other fisherman that weren't having luck and were looking for a feed of pink salmon. 

So is the season done? It was great to get out for a few days, wish we had this every year. nephew bought a boat, so maybe a bit more fishing for other species next year.

Kept 10 this season. A reasonable amount to get thru to Coho time.
Two were cooked immediately at end of different days and the others were filleted to be well taken care of in the smoker for a couple rounds in coming weeks.

I also agree. I have found the pinks to freeze ok. I cooked one up 2 weeks after I caught it. I found it to be delicious. I didn't get why most were saying it doesn't taste good unless you cook them right away.
