Chilliwack Rivers Day Celebration

Posted on September 18th 2013, by Rodney Hsu, Webmaster

Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Society will onlce again be hosting its annual World Rivers Day celebration at the Chilliwack Fish and Games Club House (48685 Chilliwack Lake Road) on Sunday September 29th. The celebration will start with the third 2013 Chilliwack River cleanup at 8:30am, followed by a volunteer appreciation BBQ, entertainment and draw prizes at Noon.

Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Society was first started in 2002 by a group of river users and local residents who were concerned about the growing garbage problem along the Chilliwack River. Since it's establishment, 80 tonnes of garbage have been removed from this watershed by volunteers during group clean-ups.

On September 29th, volunteers are asked to meet at the Chilliwack Fish and Games Club House (48685 Chilliwack Lake Road) and register at 8:30am. You will then be assigned a section at the river to take part in the group clean-up until Noon. Tim Hortons will once again be providing coffee, donuts, muffins and other beverages for volunteers. Latex gloves, garbage bags and pick-up tools will be available. You should dress appropriately for the weather. A pair of waders or gumboots can come in very handy when picking up garbage from the river bank.

Anglers are encouraged to attend this event as it benefits this popular recreational fishing stream. You can experience the early morning salmon fishing, then give a few hours back to the river. A BBQ will be waiting for you back at the club house after the clean-up.
