Part Two Of Febuary 10th Journal on The Vedder
« on: February 10, 2006, 10:54:06 AM »

As the weekend draws near for the weekend fishers as always a warm welcome to the journal on FWR.

I have just got back from meeting the fellow that found my treasured fishing equipment yesterday on Hopedale Road.

The reel and sage rod seems to have suffered no damage which surprises me after the 4 foot free fall from the Leaf Mobile to the pavement. However Maple Leaf Drennan #2 has made its last drift as it has appeared to have given its life by cushioning the fall, the top has been shattered beyond repair.

I bought a $20 gift certificate from Tim Hortons for Rick that found it. When he drives in to deliver it to me this morning I see he is a salesman and delivery chap for a coffee company.  ;D ;D

Anyway I wanted to show my appreciation for his good deed in some way.

We must always remember when we find anything we do our best to find the owner as it may be a item like mine that was irreplaceable. It is sure good in all the bad news we keep hearing there is more good and honest pepole out there than sometimes we believe.

With this drennan damaged I will go out to the river to find a replacement but then remembering my last paragraft I should try to find the owner. ??? I did find one balsa float that Trout Slayer lost.Ts had put a Riverside Tackle sticker on it. I posted in an a i had found it and he said it was his so he got it back, most likely lost it again. ;D

As  "The Master " said "I lose so many I am going to put my initials on them so you can return them to me when you find them. Maybe others should take up this idea as well.

An update weather wise, the East wind is still howling but just got a call from Randy and it seems to be calming down a bit. He lost one in the upper this morning. I am going to meet him at "Woody's Grill" now for a coffee.

Will post a weather update and fishing report later before I go to an SDA meeting in Langley tonight.

I guess all that hardened roe on the rod cork did have a function after all; it helped cushioned the fall  ;D ;D ;D

Just got back from testing out the found equipment including Maple Leaf Drennan #1 who was very pleased to be back in action as well. I was able to get the toothpick out with a wire that I got this afternoon from Ernie. It had the perfect thickness and straight to do the job. ;D I am now using those stoppers that stldslayer gave me, they are just great

Did not find a fish but was pleased everything was working just like it was before it made that fall to the pavement yesterday. Dad must have been looking down yesterday to prevent any damage. Of course he would not be too happy that I was so careless.

The winds are still howling in the lower and I would recommend staking your ground in the upper somewhere if when you arrive in the area if the winds are still blowing. Was in at Fred's around noon and 4 had been weighed in then. Everyone was complaining about the winds but a few hardy souls did pick up the odd fish including "The Master" who landed and released a hatchery buck. He fished most of the day for that fish so you know the fishing was slow.

Also had a enjoyable lunch with Randog who gave me a Randog cork float to rteplace the one I lost last year on the Thompson. :( Will save it for later in the season. Thanks for the hat also Randy. A pleasure to meet his two fishing partners over a late breakfast at "Woody's Grill".

Also tonight I was lucky to find a No. 4 Piker, 28 Gram, no name on it. ??? Start marking them guys so I can return them when I find them. ;D ;D I guess it will become MLD # 3 if MLD #2 is ever lost but I think it has 9 lives like my rod and reel that I got back today. O, I guess they have 8 lives left as they both have returned from the grave once.

Have a good weekend everyone off to a SDA meeting tonight will post any interesting info tomorrow.

Wasn't sure who it was as I could not hear you because of the noise from the traffic. Actually did not fish as cleaned up a bunch of garbage from a gravel pit party.

Saw one caught and heard of a few others.

This morning I went went out for a look but did not fish, saw one caught, apparently it was this angler's second.

I saw him pull it up on the gravel beach and remove the hook and then shove it back to the water. From reports from another angler he did the same thing with the first one. >:( :(

I sort of lost it and told him my displeasure in no uncertain terms. With a number of other anglers about I would have embarrassed him. The other angler who saw the first abuse of a fish said maybe I should have gone to the other side of the river and just spoke to him one on one. What is the rest of the forums opinion what I should have done? What I did or crossed to river to talk one on one.

I just cannot believe someone could treat a steelhead or for that matter any fish. Also I would have thought some angler on the other side of the river would have said something to this uneducated fisher the first time he did this.

I may slip out this afternoon to try a cast or two and get ready for another week of fishing ahead. ;D ;D
