Vedder RIver Steelehad Fishing Report 2/3/2006
« on: February 03, 2006, 02:56:13 PM »

Well, another day, another fishing report. With the heavy rain reported to arrive tomorrow, I thougt that its today or never.

The river looked a bit murkier than yesterday- not sure why.

Khim and I got to the spot where fish were hooked consistently yesterday. Daylight was just breaking as we both started fishing. Within 10 minutes, I heard a big splash 15 feet away from me. I thought to myself- wow, this is going to be an awesome day. Before I knew it, I realized that someone above us actually had caught that fish. He fought it for a bit but just before landing it, the hook came off.

For the next hour and half, nothing happened. Fishermen started to wonder around.

It was not long before I did some wondering of my own. Fished a few smaller runs but no takes. I kept walking downstream until I hit this nice looking tailout and to my surprise, no one was fishing it. ;D ;D

Anxiously, I walked into the run and made a few casts. I think it was about 5 minutes later when my float too a dive. The sensitive Sage gave me the indication that a nice fish was hooked. It took a run up river and then decided to run downstream. I can feel that this was a good size fish as I tried to control the runs. I can see CG running up towards me seeing that I got one on but before he could make it to me, the fish broke the leader.  I slowly walked back up to the run.

I retied my leader and hook and inserted a new roebag. 10 minutes into it, my float took a dive again. The fish started taking lines with runs up and down this tailend. As I was playing it, CG saw that I had another fish on. As I was trying to land the hatchery hen, CG came up to assist me. I decided to keep the fish as I have to pick up my son from school( Half Day Friday in Maple Ridge )soon.

As I left the run, a couple of guys started to come to the run( I later heard that they each hooked into fish ).

I walked up to my fishing buddy and found out nothing much happened during my absence. Just as we were about to leave, a guy accross the river hooked into one but lost it quickly. I told Khim to quickly make a cast into the same spot and guess what- his float took a dive and the fight was on. His Sage started to bounce up and down and I could tell that it was a good size fish. He had on for quite a while but as it close in, the leader broke at the hook section. Darn it!!!!! :'( :'(

He tried for another half an hour but to no avail to get the fish back. In the meantime, the same guy accross hooked another fish and landed this nice hatchery fish of about 8Lbs.

As we were leaving, Peter was out taking pictures and we got to be models for him. Looking forward to see those amazing black and white pictures that Peter took. If you have a chance to see his work during your fishing trip, you will be amazed!!!!!

He needs his hearing checked. ;D I said, "I am SUPPOSED to work but I MIGHT come out for an afternoon with Dad if the weather is ok and I manage to find some free time." ;D

Hey Steelieman..... nice job on your fish!! That was me across from you, the first fish I hooked was definitely bigger than the one I landed.... it kinda caught me by surprise and I had my rod way up in the air trying to keep the belly out of my line.... long distance hookups can be tough at times!! :-\ The second fish didn't put up much of a scrap, but she was sure a beauty of about 10-11 pounds.
