Upper Squamish R. FN snaggin' & bonkin'
« on: September 30, 2005, 10:10:17 PM »

I was there Monday & saw treble-hook snagging AND guys bar fishing w/ roe!  I, like many of you, assumed that if they're FN it's OK (although one of the Bar fishers was white for sure).  I spoke to a DFO rep today who stated the only thing a Status Card entitles one to is not having to purchase a license.  Otherwise all freshwater regs are supposed to apply.  I realize this is likely a lost cause, but let's, for starters, keep phoning the DFO when we see these things guys.

The thing to do is get a licence plate # and give that to the CO.
I've found enforcement to be quite tight in the Squamish area-plus there's only one road in/one road out.

I called the next day to the DFO FN resource rep to get clarification--boy was I shocked.  I assume the same thing applies to trout/char/Steelhead?  I've seen FN guys take wild Steelhead up there too.  I guess it's a moot point now as the chemical spill took care of them :'(
